Surf Wetsuits
Depending a location and season, California, and many other areas, can be an impossibly cold place to surf. Even in warm areas, a phenomenon known as residual water heat loss can cause surfers in eighty degree water to lose body temperature. To counteract this, surf wetsuits have been specifically designed to keep surfers warm and safe in even the coldest waters.
These surf wetsuits have been designed for all manner of occasions. There is the popular short suit that covers the body’s middle section and extends outwards to t-shirt and shorts length. These are ideal for warmer climates where prolonged exposure can induce hypothermia. These short suits also allow for greater freedom and mobility while surfing and have become very popular.
In colder climates, such as the Pacific Northwest, five-millimeter full body surf wetsuits are worn year round. Along with hoods, gloves, and even booties these suits are ideally suited to the perpetual cold water that far north. Some areas even require full-body dry suits to ensure that a surfer doesn’t freeze to death.
