Surf Shops

Obviously, a surf shop is a place to buy equipment needed for the sport of surfing. But that is only the beginning of what most have to offer. For one, they are run by locals who clearly love this sport. These people can be a wealth of knowledge, especially if you’re not a local.

Maybe you’re an experienced surfer in Hermosa Beach, California. But you have never surfed in Costa Rica. It could be that gear that works well in your hometown is not ideal for this region. Also, there are various dangers of rocks, reefs, and wildlife of which you might be unaware. Talk to the people at the surf shop to find out about currents, weather conditions, and even maybe find someone to go surfing with.

A surf shop is like a real-time community forum, where not just the clerks may have something to offer but other locals who frequent that beach. Don’t neglect this resource if you are planning on surfing in a new area. And remember, it could be a great place to make some friends.
