Surf Clothing
Surf clothing has become ever more popular since the late nineteen-fifties and sixties. Surf clothing remains casual and comfortable designed with humid beaches in mind. Sandals, Bermuda shorts, and t-shirts are staple items for both sexes. Hoodies, hooded sweatshirts, are also popular for colder days or for the beach bonfires at night.
Surf shops initially began designing and selling surf clothing alongside boards and other products. It’s easy to recall the shorter, tighter board-shorts that were first in style from old beach films. And who could forget the loud neon’s of the late-eighties and early-nineties.
There also have been stories of resident surf bums who loaded their car trunks with original shirt designs to sell while waiting for the next set of rollers. In some cases these ‘bums’ went on to form successful businesses which thrive today. Though there are now some large corporate entities in the business, it still remains influenced by the underground.
