Electric Dryer Repair - Do You Have What It Takes?

A dryer is an important part of a wonderful duo. A washer and dryer is the perfect duo appliance for any home great or small. Of course, there is a debate as to which is the better model: gas or electric. Today, the electric seems to be winning, but the gas is quickly catching up. Gas runs clean and cost less to maintain, but the longevity and initial cost of the electric seems to be better. In addition, electric dryer repair is much easier.

When you have a problem with your dryer, it affects your entire home. Sometimes, if the problem is bad enough, it can have deadly consequences. One think that is vital is knowing the basics of electric dryer repair. Although I cannot tell you how to fix every problem with your dryer, here are a few steps that get me pointed in the right direction.

Usually I have one of two problem: either the dryer isn't drying, or it simply won't start. My suggestion is that no matter the problem, you check your electrical outlet. I was amazed - and a bit embarrassed - that after calling a repair person to come check my dryer, all he did was simply plug it in. Apparently, something mysterious and invisible unplugged my dryer.

Since we are on this topic, I also suggest flipping the fuse box switch for your dryer on and off. Even if it looks okay, flip it anyway. Sometimes, switches can get stuck in a certain position, and flipping the switch doesn't really hurt anything anyway. Of course, if worse comes too worse, it may be necessary to test the outlet itself. My garbage disposal quit working not too long ago and the plug in had gone bye-bye on me. Well, today we use what I call the "hillbilly" garbage disposal. This consists of my son plugging in the orange, heavy-duty extension cord to another plug in for the time I need it to work.

Sometimes, you may find it necessary to check the door switch on the dryer. On occasion, debris can get stuck in there and keep it from functioning properly. Also, while you are down there, check to see if the light bulb comes on. If there is no light, the problem may indeed take a professional.

The first thing I also check if the dryer is not drying properly is the lint catcher. Sometimes, the lint can fall into the vent duct so you may need to get a vacuum that will suck instead of blow and take a visit outside. Again, the door switch should be checked for any unnecessary debris. You would be amazed at how often this is the problem.

Once I have emptied my resources of common problems, I find it handy to get me a professional. These steps are only a simplistic trouble shooting guide to electric dryer repair. By no means is it complete, but following these simple steps will keep you from wounding that pride when you call the repair person.
